WinterHawks II

Tonight, the four of us headed out to our second Portland Winter Hawks game this year. As I may have mentioned earlier, the Winter Hawks are the closest this state has to NHL caliber hockey. They are the southern-most team of the 20-team WHL, and currently sitting in 3rd (with 15 points) of the U.S. Division, Western Conference.

The hawks looked pretty dang good in their 3-0 victory. Recently acquired goalie Blake Grenier stood on his head for much of the game - stopping all 31 shots faced. Maybe this is the boost the Hawks need?

Speaking of the NHL, any tech-types out there have probably at least heard of Tech TV (recently changed its name to G4 Tech TV, or something like that). In lieu of the lock-out, G4 has “G4 Sports NHL Update”. This kicks butt! Anyone out there who has ever owned a gaming system and likes sports will appreciate this. We’ve all held our own “seasons” and kept the stats–these guys get paid to do it. How do I get that job? Of course, I think they’re a bit biased…as of this posting, the Red Wings are 2-5-1, and when’s the last time that happened? Also, the Atlanta Thrashers are 7-0-1, after finishing 10th in the East last year, and 21st (of 30) overall. But, hey, I’ll take it - it’s at least some semblance of NHL!
