Duty and Privilege

I had a birthday recently. Overall, it was good–as far as birthday’s go. Even got a piece of certified mail.

Here’s what it says:

City of Salem - Plaintiff
vs.
[Name of Person] - Defendant

To [me]

In the name of the City of Salem:

You are hereby notified that you have been seleted to serve as a juror in the above entitled case, and you are hereby required to be and appear before the municipal court in the court room, in the city hall, on the [n]th day of February, 2005, at 10:00 o’clock AM of said day, and herein fail not.

Dated this 13th day of January, 2005

So, I get Municipal Court Jury duty notice on my birthday. The good news is I get a free parking pass for the day. This is my civic duty and privilege, and I shall herein fail not.
