People Watching

People watching is a blast. You know what I mean, people in public are trippy. My favorite locales:

  1. Grocery Store. This one may be more about diet watching, than people. Take a look at some of the things people buy to eat.
  2. Restaurants. Who’s with who, and why. How do they know each other? I think my wife likes this one too.
  3. The mall. Everyone has their agenda. However, this requires me to be at a mall.
  4. The park. I think my enjoyment here is just seeing people playing with each other. Usually a peaceful thing.
  5. Concerts. Personal fav’s were Greatful Dead and Pink Floyd, for probably obvious reasons. I didn’t even have tickets to the Greatful Dead concert, but it was close and so a couple of friends and I just went early to people watch in the parking lot.
  6. Theme parks. Matching t-shirts. How cute.
  7. Casinos. I’m not much of a gambler (big surprise). However, I’ve been to a few casinos, including Vegas, and talk about all kinds. Stories and situations and histories galore!
  8. Movie theaters (particularly a premiere of a SciFi or fantasy). I can only think of one premiere I’ve been to, but some of those there are just a bit on edge. This was Return of the King, and I saw a few in-character. “Legolas” stuck out–he was carrying a bow and quiver. How’d they let him in!?
  9. Conventions. I’ve only been to boring, professional-type conventions. However, pics from the recent Comic Con are the next best thing. I think I want to go to this one sometime.
  10. The airport. I dig seeing the emotions of people leaving or returning, and then guessing the back story about the trip.

What the hell is a “Pingback?”

Pingbacks (aka Trackbacks) are built-in to blogs. They can be enabled/disabled. I think that both sites have to have them enabled to work.

In short, if you link to my blog within a post on your blog, your blog notifies my blog. My blog goes out and snips part of that post, and drops it in as a Pingback (’comment’) on my that post of my blog…

  1. […] Finished a few books this week.  Perfect weather for hanging out by the pool and reading. The one above was a blast to read.  It’s all about, you guessed it, body language and it’s written in a humorous way.  I went to the mall (see this link for other great people watching places) the other day and tested my new knowledge as I watched a dude try to sell something to a lady.  I couldn’t hear them but could tell it wasn’t going well for him.  At the end of it, I wanted to go over there and tell him how he was missing the seriously negative gestures that the lady was making and offer a few pointers.  I didn’t…I don’t like salesmen anyway so he can keep failing as far as I’m concerned.  Anyway, if you want to know how people really feel, pick up this book.  Probably great for poker players too.
