Property VII (home site cleared)

As you may know, Michelle and I celebrated our 10th anniversary by ditching the kids last weekend (thx Gramma & Grampa). We escaped for a 3-day weekend to Klamath Falls, OR. Very relaxing, quite needed.

However, while we were gone, the escavators continued scratching, digging, pawing, and tree-falling. As a result, the remainder of last week produced a cleared area which will host our “barn” as well as the surrounding yard. Our future “big” house will also be in this area (the exact location still to be determined-but very close to the Barn).

Sunday, when Michelle and I returned, we took pictures. If things ever slow down (who am I kidding?), I do plan to look into a gallery or better way to organize these things (any suggestions from fellow bloggers?).

For now, some shots:

  • Before and After … at the home site. You may have seen the Before pics in the previous post (under the “Now, at the curve” bullet).
    • After:    Homesite This is standing at the curve about 425′ in from the road, facing NW. The actual site of the “Barn” would be behind the two foremost trees at the left of this shot…leaving a large spanse of cleared area to the east and north of the house.
  • This is standing in front of the aforementioned “two trees”, facing North again. This Walnut tree is estimated at “stinking old”. A guess of 120+ years, I think someone knowledgeable once said. There are two of these on the property - previously obscured by the many Douglas Fir surrounding them. It is these two trees that ultimately helped us decide the location of the house.

If you have a particularly keen eye, you may notice a few pink-flagged stakes in the foreground of these pictures. These stakes mark the corners of the 1st house (aka “The Barn”). If you were standing in the Barn, this is the view from the kitchen sink window.

Finally, if standing in the front door of the Barn, this is the view back down the driveway to the “curve”.   (horizontal)    (vertical)
Obviously, the brush piles will be gone. Also, note that where the Cat currently sits is close to “the curve”.

I hope this gives at least a general idea of the lay of the land. We’re obviously very excited about the whole thing–even though there is sooo much yet to do and figure out. Give us a call…we’ll happily go out there and walk around with you!

    Pat and Michelle,

This is one beautiful site for a house, barn or whatever. (What’s in a name??) It’s very exciting to us so you must be thrilled to have things in motion. I like the way you’re sending photos. It’s easy to go back and forth between description and picture. Some friends of ours use dotphoto with good results. They put slide shows to music for you and have lots of cool features. Not sure how involved the membership is. I wish we were closer so we could walk the property with you all!

    Love, Jean

Just a quick echo to Jean’s comments. Wish we COULD just give you a call and walk around with you out there during the whole project. But, we’ll settle for the picture updates! Keep em coming…they’re appreciated.
