Property X (gravel & water)

As previously expected, the driveway is now graveled (is that a word?!). I have to say, looks pretty sweet. The arc (aka “the curve”) is very smooth, and offers what we wanted… from the road you can see the driveway and a turn, but won’t see the house. But as the arc begins, the house comes into view (as does the two huge Walnut trees). These pics are at the curve, looking back toward the road…taken around 6pm. Gotta say, I really like these two pictures!

Note the stack of logs. Much timber waiting there for a good price.

By now, you’re probably sick of my ‘brush pile’ comments! However, these things just trip me out. Here’s a pic of one in the homesite area, with our Jeep as comparison. This is just one–there are more. Escavator removal is quite expensive; currently we are discussing options. One idea is rent a wood chipper and create a pile to use in future path-making. Another is fire come wintertime. I like the idea of wood-chips in a path, but that’s not a small project. Guess we’ll see! Oh yeah, here’s the pic:

Late in the day yesterday, I got an email… the well-driller was at 150′ and still no water. Original quote was for 180′, but we never thought water would be a problem–the other well was an artesian well, so we figured no sweat. When the well-driller left for the day, they were at 180′, and no water. However, when the family went out there last night to see what had changed, there be streaming water.

Turns out the well driller suggests another 20′ or so to make sure we’re into the aquifer. It’s expected the well (and the related tests for our loan business) to be done Saturday. Also, the expected gallons per minute (gpm) is quite suitable.

Once this part is finalized, the next major piece is septic approval. More on that topic next week…
