Property XII
Anyone seen The Money Pit? We have nothing at all like that in our experiences yet (knock on wood), but if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll chuckle at “2 weeks”. We have heard many, many answers of “2 weeks” to our question of how long.
Some more updates:
- The septic inspector showed up 1 day after we filed the application for permit. At the time of filling out the application (Tuesday), guess what the answer was when I asked how long before someone would inspect? (hint: see above).
It so happens that Jeff was on the property at the time, and received a verbal “looks good” report. The true report was to be mailed today, I hope to have it tomorrow or Saturday. This is a good thing–with this report, we can combine that with the final, formal plans, and submit for a building permit. That too is supposed to take 2 weeks, so we’ll see. I have a tendency to expect it truly will be 2 weeks on the building permit. - PGE (Portland General Electric) walked & wheeled the site today to get an estimate on length of power line that would need to run in the trench. Also, we spoke at length about options for power supply to “The Barn”, as well as the future house. After nailing that down, it came to where to put the transformer (”robots in disguise”), and on which side of The Barn to put the meter. Details, mostly, but location of transformer (”more than meets the eye”) and how to get power to both locations could impact on future plans. PGE too will be mailing out the sketch needed by Jeff for the plans, as well as the cost estimate needed by me. Should be here in a couple days.
Once we we get the trench dug, we call them, they inspect in 1-2 days. After that, how long before they actually set the transformer and run the wire? Uh-huh: 2 weeks. - Turns out there is no cable in our area - we are that rural. How about that…didn’t know that existed this day and age, except maybe in Montana or Wyoming. So, I’ll have to explore my options for TV, or more importantly to me, internet access. Dish/Direct TV I’m sure is available, and I think there is a directional wireless antenna we can tap into… Not exactly life or death, but something we’d miss.
Well, more as I find out more. Thanks for reading!
