Changes to The Barn

Here I go slacking again… and, as before, my lack of posting should not be taken as any indication that the house isn’t progressing–it surely is.

I plan to get some new pictures up soon. Related, both Brendan and Lucas are in full baseball season swing (how about that pun?!) … so some pictures coming of them too.

As for the house update: where to begin?! When last I updated, the 2nd floor was framed, roof on.

We now have many of the “major aspects” done (at least major in terms of visual changes). The roof is now shingled. Windows are all in (except one) including the sliding glass door. Front door is hung, as is the well-house door.

Last weekend, we spent many, many (wow!) hours priming the siding. This weekend, we hope (plan) to get 1 coat of paint on it–as they will be putting it up mid/late this week. A second, finish coat, will be applied after the siding is up. Things will really look different at that point.

As for the interior, there are lots of things happening there as well. Some points to note: electrical sockets are mounted, and holes drilled to run wire. Plumbing is roughed in for the entire house (bathrooms, kitchen, utility room). Duct-work is setup for the heating system. Each bedroom has mounts for ceiling lights & smoke detectors. Things are definitely taking shape!

Next up for us is getting a coat of finish paint on the siding before they put it up next week. For the contractors: setting the tank for the well, and connecting the water lines and electrical to the house; wiring electrical in the house; and putting up the siding. I’m sure there is more on-deck, but I don’t know (or can’t remember!).

Desktop Tower Defense

Beware - addiction ahead.

Bored? Need a simple little free game? Check out Desktop Tower Defense. Oddly entertaining and strangely fun. Enjoyable little thing to tinker with over lunch…

thx, Josh (I think)

Framing II

Holy delay in update, Batman. I’ll spare you the drivel of why I haven’t posted. Suffice it to say it has nothing to do with delays on the house itself. That is progressing nicely.

First to note, I’ve updated the ‘Framing’ gallery with a few more pictures - now showing the completed first floor. Woohoo!

As of this writing, the 2nd floor of The Barn has been completed as has much of the roof (though not yet shingled). However, it was …oh, about 90% complete last Friday (April 27th) when we took pictures. See the pictures here! It is really taking shape!

Expecting upcoming events: finishing the roofing (shingling) on Thursday, then rough plumbing and electrical work for the remainder of this week into early next week. As always, more to come soon!

Pics posted!

Just a post to notify all that I’ve uploaded new galleries of pics:

Framing will most likely be updated, as that will change over the next few days/weeks. Hope you enjoy!

Progress Report

Well, the post-per-day was a good idea. Just not enough hours in the day.

As of yesterday, there have been changes (I haven’t been out there yet today, but will after Brendan’s baseball practice tonight). We have plumbing in–at least in terms of waterway from well to pumphouse, then into The Barn. That seems like a good thing!

The subfloor is constructed, and as of last night 1 wall was framed. So we’re going verticle now! Woohooo!! I know, I know, I have to upload some of the pile of pictures we’ve been accumulating. In the next few days/weeks, I should think things will really start taking shape.

Speaking of which, I changed the gallery just a bit. Now, each link will take you to the thumbnails of the whole gallery. This way you can click to view any of the pics, or open the picture in a new tab (get Firefox!!) or window. Let me know if you prefer one method over the other…

The Property

Quick update - I’m on my way out after a very long day at work… and really wanna leave!

Of course, as soon as I post that I plan to update daily, I skip. Oh well. The largest change came in the form of plumbing work in the subflooring. We’ve taken pictures, of course, so I will update this post with those once I get them uploaded. [EDIT! there are pictures now - boringish plumbing, but also of Brendan riding his bike, which is kinda fun!]

Also, we spent the weekend working on our fencing and gate entrance. Several months ago, we put up the gate, and, I must say, it looks great! This past weekend, we curved the “cow fence” (I’m told it’s called) away from the road to join up with the gate. Also, on either side of the gate, we framed up some (more decorative) wood fencing. My words are terrible! …the pictures to come will help clarify, I’m sure.
